Battling the Waves

2-47_coverClan Hauser has a very busy next few weeks, culminating in a big meeting to kick off the launch of making Healing Ranch a reality. Unfortunately (maybe I should say inevitably), some recent spare moments led to feeling early waves of overwhelmedness (overwhelmingness, overwhelming hood???) building up and threatening to knock me off balance and take my eyes off of Him and His promises.

Fortunately, I immediately recognized the signs, planted my feet and refocused back on the truth. In my best “physician heal thyself” mode, I opened 2:47 and the first prayer I came to provided just the assurance I needed. In case you are having a bit of an off balance day, I thought I would share my comfort, below.

I am heading to a Wild at Heart weekend bootcamp with my good friend Ken and am so looking forward to time in the (cold) woods with other men eager to draw closer to God. I am planning on sleeping right through 2:47 all three nights!

Chapter 5 – David and Me, prayer 1 – Control

Life seems to be spinning faster than I can handle. The world, my world, is accelerating at a frightening rate and I seem to be moving slower. I fear missing things, events, people. Dropping the ball or not even seeing the ball coming eats at my confidence. Disappointing or outright failing those that I love or that depend on me is an all too frequent companion to my thoughts. Am I disappointing or failing You too?

My precious son, you have not and cannot ever fail me. I do not grade, not even on a curve! Your desire for control, and the illusion of peace that comes with it, is in direct conflict with My will – and that causes you the stress. While the world appears to be more and more complicated, in reality it is your perception of it that is widening, and that frightens you. Awareness does that. It also brings you closer to relying on Me. I am the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, it is you that constantly evolves. You can choose to grow in Me or continue to try and control that which is uncontrollable.

Lift your eyes to Me in every situation, for My eyes watch over those who do right. I will guide you each day as to what you can impact and that which you must let go of and trust Me to handle. Often the decisions and the letting go will be difficult or downright painful, but with each act of trust, you will draw closer to Me. I will deliver on every one of My promises, but that means My way, not yours and that realization will be both painful and wonderfully liberating to you. Know that I always have your best interest at heart, even when you can’t see it, feel it or even appreciate it at the moment.

Proverbs 19:21

You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Psalm 121:1-2; 34:15 (David)

I look up to the mountains – does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth! The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right.
