Wash Their Feet

Although it shames me greatly, I have a seemingly unlimited capacity to remember past wrongs. Sadly, the ones done (or perceived) to have been done to me are even better remember than the wrongs that sprang from me.  Imagine that!

Jesus had a long talk with me this morning and I tried to do most of the listening. (Again, imagine that!). Amidst His commands to love and forgive, even our enemies, He pointed out that failing to do so only hurt me…kind of like drinking poison and expecting the other guy to die. The chains of grudge were only pulling me down, they had no other impact on anyone else.

He not only had me let go, He had me take one more step. Just as He washed the feet of His disciples, including the one who would betray Him, He bade me wash the feet of those who had hurt me.

I don’t know where some of those people are today, but I prayed, washed, forgave, wished them peace and asked for their forgiveness. I trust Jesus delivered the message to them as He did to me.
